The falafel, shawarma and hummus may make you think you are in the bustling shuk in Jerusalem. In reality, you’re in New York City. Welcome to Falafel Crunch.
“Falafel Crunch brings the taste of Israel to Washington Heights,” David Nahon, the restaurant’s co-owner, wrote to The Jewish Link. Falafel Crunch, located on Amsterdam Avenue, is an Israeli joint offering not just the ordinary falafel and shawarma but also kebab sandwiches, rice bowls, a spicy meat soup, kibbeh and more. It opened in January and is also owned by Doron Levy, who is Israeli.
According to Nahon, Falafel Crunch is “known for the best falafel in NYC along with the best chicken and lamb shawarma.” Their steak plancha in a pita is delicious and their hummus is described on their UberEats site as “crafted with care using the finest ingredients” and “a savory delight perfect for dipping, spreading or enjoying straight from the spoon.” Indeed, Falafel Crunch boasts a 4.9-star review on Google.
What’s unique about Falafel Crunch? “The taste and vibe make you feel back at home,” Nahon noted; that environment comes in part from the Israeli music playing at the restaurant and the challahs and other foods being sold on Friday for Shabbat.
Notably, as the headline of a YeahThatsKosher.com article by Farhana Rahman points out, the restaurant is situated in the area of the Yeshiva University men’s campus. In fact, Falafel Crunch accepts the YU cafeteria card, and it’s no surprise that the restaurant is patronized by hungry students.
Customers can order for pickup or delivery on UberEats. To order from their Shabbat and catering menus, call their business phone number, 646-884-0854.
Falafel Crunch is located at 2547 Amsterdam Ave in New York. Their general phone number is 212-641-0155, and they are under the kosher supervision of the Va’ad HaRabbonim of Riverdale.
