(Courtesy of YU) On March 12, former hostage Mia Schem’s family drew the largest crowd in Stern College history. More than 700 people turned out to hear Keren Scharf Schem, Mia’s mother (left), and Ilay Schem, Mia’s brother (middle), speak about Mia’s story of survival in Gaza and her efforts to advocate for freeing the remainder of the hostages held by Hamas. The family was welcomed by Rabbi Dr. Ari Berman, president of Yeshiva University (right). Also in attendance were Rabbi Shay Schacter, Judaic Studies professor at YU; Shoshana Schechter, associate dean of Stern College for Women; and Stern board members.
