FC Teaneck Thunder entered the spring soccer season with reason for optimism. After winning the Spring 2016 Northern Counties Pre-Season Tournament in March, the team hoped to improve on its rough fall season which ended with a disappointing 3-6-1 record.
FC Teaneck is the travel club soccer division of Teaneck Junior Soccer League (TJSL) for Teaneck residents six to 18 years of age who are looking for a competitive, year-round soccer experience; it currently has 20 teams for boys and girls.
With a dominating 7-0 win last Thursday night, the FC Teaneck Thunder clinched the spring division championship with an 8-0 record. The highlight of the season was sweeping two games against rival Hoboken by scores of 6-3 and 4-1, avenging an embarrassing 9-3 home loss to Hoboken in the fall.
The Thunder will play second-place Aviators on June 19 seeking to complete a dream undefeated spring season.
The team has surrendered only 9 goals all season, with goalies Eliav Baron and Ben Shore combining for three shutouts. The brick-wall defense was led by Daniel Becker, Zachary Wolf, Sam Lehrer, Dylan Grimes and Menachem Kravetz. Midfield was patrolled by Gabriel Einhorn, Natan Rifkind, Tuvia Levine, Eitan Dukas and new addition Mozamel (“Mo”) Qurbanzada. The high-powered offense, with 35 goals, featured Zali Tollinsky, Diego Corleto, Manny Nagel, Tal Kamara and Nathan Planer.
