(FDU Sports) Starting in May, sixth to eighth grade boys will have the opportunity to improve their baseball skills in a unique way as FDU Coach Rob DiToma and his staff will run six, two-hours sessions for middle school boys. The sessions will be split between skill-building and scrimmage time. Coach DiToma and his staff will focus on skill building for all facets of the game, including catching, hitting, fielding, pitching and running. Coach DiToma believes that “building skills is beneficial for every player, from the all-star to the kid struggling to make contact. Each person always has room for improvement and can benefit from the guidance of professionals. There is usually a strong correlation between the fun players have and confidence in their ability to play and improve their skills.” The sessions will take place on Sundays at 5 p.m. or Mondays at 6 p.m. on the FDU field.
The new program became a reality when Bergenfield resident Moshe Moskowitz called DiToma in the summer to explore ways middle school boys could build their skills while playing in a competitive environment. Mokowitz tips his hat (pun intended) to the many leagues in the area and the amazing dedication and time the coaches put in for their teams, but felt that the opportunity to learn directly from college-level coaches would be a valuable experience for the boys. Coach DiToma was immediately open to the idea and felt that his experience as a coach and running clinics would be a great fit for the program Moskowitz envisioned. Moskowitz sees this program complementing the many leagues available to middle school boys and not detracting from registration in those leagues.
Coach Rob DiToma has been the coach of FDU since 2019, following six seasons as a member of the Fordham baseball coaching staff. In 2019, DiToma helped guide Fordham to an Atlantic 10 championship and back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1998. On the field, DiToma played four seasons at Mercy College as the starting second baseman and served as team captain as a senior. As a junior, he batted.309 and was an All-NYCAC selection.
Registration is now open at http://www.ditomabaseballcamps.com/shop. The cost will be capped at $200 per player due to a sponsorship by Moskowitz’s company Jump Into Shape ( www.jumpintoshape.fun ). The registration fee is based on 20 players; if registration reaches 30 players, the fee will be lowered or an additional session will be added. For more information, please email Coach DiToma at [email protected] or Moskowitz at [email protected].
