Yeshiva University’s Center for the Jewish Future (www.yu.edu/cjf) will co-sponsor the US National Bible Contest for Adults, an event that will determine which outstanding Bible scholars will represent the United States at the International Chidon HaTanach (Bible Contest) for Adults in Jerusalem in December.
Scheduled for Sunday, November 30, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the West Side Institutional Synagogue, 120 West 76th Street in Manhattan, the event will mark the first time in the contest’s history that national finals are taking place outside of Israel. In addition to the Bible competition, the event will include a musical performance and remarks by Israeli Consul-General Ido Aharoni and YU President Richard M. Joel.
Of the 13 talented contestants, several are members of the “YU family,” including Bernard Revel Graduate School of Jewish Studies graduate and Yeshiva College professor Yair Shahak, Stern College for Women and Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education and Administration alumnus Adina Brizel, and Stern College graduate and Yeshiva University High School for Girls faculty member Leah Segal.
In addition to Consul-General Aharoni and President Joel, senior officials from the World Zionist Organization, the American Zionist Movement, and the Jewish Federations of North America will serve as judges. The distinguished panel will choose a winner and first runner up, both of whom will compete at the International Chidon HaTanach for Adults in Jerusalem.
The event will be accessible to a wide audience in the United States and Israel via a live stream on Shalom TV. Free tickets for the US National Bible Contest for Adults can be obtained by registering in advance of the event at www.azm.org/bible-contest/.
