Replacing traditional midterm or final exams, at the end of each trimester, The Idea School students engage in final Presentations of Learning. The POL’s are another crucial and unique feature of The Idea School and an important part of the way students are assessed. Students prepare an oral presentation and slide show which they present to faculty and their parents about their reflections and learning over the semester as well as areas of growth and opportunity. The students also are asked questions from the faculty audience about their semester’s experience. By doing POL’s instead of final exams, students are able to reflect in a personal way that gives them agency and ownership of their learning and development. Presentations of Learning are a favorite among the faculty and staff and (once they are done with their presentations) the students as well!
