Fleetwood Synagogue in southern Westchester is making moves to accommodate a growing community and the burgeoning medical career of its head rabbi, Yosef Cohen.
Rabbi Zaki Dayan has been brought in as the community’s assistant rabbi to serve as an additional rabbinic resource to the shul. Cohen will begin his second year as the head rabbi as he starts his pediatric residency. Dayan will ensure coverage at shul for times where Cohen will be on call or out for residency reasons. Rabbis Cohen and Dayan have had extensive halachic and hashkafic conversations to ensure a unified direction of Fleetwood, its values and its practices.
Dayan will be starting at Kollel Elyon at Yeshiva University. He is originally from Flatbush and studied at Yeshivas Aish Gesher in Jerusalem for two years following high school. He received his rabbinical degree at R.I.E.T.S Yeshiva University and he has worked as a shiur assistant in Rabbi Shulman’s shiur at Yeshiva University.
His wife Gabriella will be starting medical school at New York Medical College. They have a 1- year-old daughter, Naomi Ashira.
