I would like to thank everyone who donated hats, coats, scarfs, gloves, blankets, sweatshirts, pants, socks and toiletries to help the homeless in Newark. The response to my November 4 article (“What Would Rabbi Sacks Want Me to Do?”) was overwhelming. Thank you as well to all of the volunteers who helped me sort, organize, re-bag and
label all of the items. I was able to fill two vans to the brim with bags of the above and this past Sunday (November 14) I distributed almost everything that was collected to the homeless and poor immigrants in Newark.
My plan is to go again in about three weeks. The need for toiletries is great. If you would like to donate toothpaste, toothbrushes, hair brushes, shavers, moist towelettes, shampoo, liquid soap, lotions and the like, it would be greatly appreciated. There is also a need for men’s sweatpants.
Thank you again for your generosity.
