Visiting the Kosher Oreo Cafè at American Dream Mall

No, you’re not dreaming… you just arrived at the entrance of IT’SUGAR, a whopping three-story candy shop inside the American Dream Mall. Kosher visitors are welcomed by an entire kosher candy section on the first floor, appropriately labeled “IT’SKOSHER.” But a slight turn to the left, and you’ll notice something even more enticing: arrows pointing up to the third floor, where the kosher Oreo Cafè is located. Surrounded by Oreo-related gear and souvenirs, the cafè offers a mouthwatering assortment of refreshing shakes and sweet treats, all made with milk’s favorite cookie.

When Oreo Cafè opened its doors in August 2021, it was still pending kosher certification. But by mid-November, Kof-K followed through on its promise of certifying the new treat shop, and the kosher-keeping shoppers at American Dream have been patronizing the cafè ever since. Oreo Cafè joined several other kosher-certified storefronts, including Chickies, Haagen Dazs, Dunkin’ Donuts and Cinnabon. As of the end of December, Bravo Pizza is still pending its grand opening, and is expected to finish construction within the next few months.

Oreo lovers visiting the cafè can have all their cookie dreams fulfilled, thanks to a menu that boasts customizable “Twist Your Oreo” treats, where customers can choose either a waffle, ice cream cone or ice cream sandwich, and then pick from a variety of toppings, including Oreo crème, Oreo cookie pieces, whipped cream, Nutella and sprinkles. And if maybe you’re too full for dessert, you can try a drink instead—an Oreo-frosted cold brew, or maybe one of the several Oreo milkshakes.

With the assortment of options, it seems like the best approach is to take the family or a group of friends to try out the cafè—this way, you can order several items and try them all. Be warned, most of the menu items are designed for those with an insatiable sweet tooth, and a bottle of water is recommended to keep your blood sugar in check. But, for a special treat, it’s worth it.

The custom confections are served up on disposable plates, but it doesn’t detract from the enjoyable experience of eating at the cafè. The 3,500-square-foot space is complete with a dozen or so Oreo-like tables and chairs for customers to sit and savor their Oreo delights. Once finished, you can take a walk around the cafe’s store, which offers an array of Oreo-related souvenirs, including t-shirts, bags and kitchenware, as well as hard-to-find Oreo cookie flavors (limited-edition gingerbread Oreos, anyone?) and other goodies.

Oreo Cafè is open Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Saturday, 11a.m. to 10 p.m. The American Dream Mall is located at 1 American Dream Way, East Rutherford, NJ, 07073.
