Free Tai Chi Group Meets at Jewish Family Service of Central NJ

Jewish Family Service of Central NJ, a non-sectarian health and social service agency, is offering a free Tai Chi program each Wednesday morning, 11 a.m.-12 p.m. (There will be no classes on April 12 and May 31.) Participants are welcome to join the group at any time. The group takes place at the JFS Office, 655 Westfield Avenue, Elizabeth, and is led by veteran Tai Chi instructor Barry Galitzer. Please wear proper clothing and sneakers.

Tai Chi offers the greatest benefit to older men and women who are healthy but relatively inactive. Studies have shown that Tai Chi practiced regularly helps reduce falls among healthy seniors. Many can also benefit from Tai Chi’s capacity to reduce stress.

Tai Chi instructor Barry Galitzer has been involved in martial arts for more than 35 years. He studied Gout Ryu and Isshin Shorinji Ryu karate and received a black belt in Isshin Shorinji karate. His studies in Tai Chi and Chi Kung started in 1993, and he has been teaching Tai Chi since 2003.

The program is part of the Lifelong Elizabeth Project through Jewish Family Service of Central NJ. Contact Charlene Haas, 908-352-8375, [email protected]., for further information.
