On November 26, the Hillel Heat brought their hustle and athleticism north to take on the Frisch Cougars in a battle of Jersey rivals.
In the opening game, the Frisch JV Cougars took on the tough and talented Hillel JV Heat. After an initial back and forth resulting in an 8-7 Frisch lead midway through the first quarter, the JV Cougars slowly pulled away. So. F Andrew Langer led the Cougars with 24 points (20 in the first half) and So. G Noah Schechter added 15. Fr. G Josh Dukas added 5 and Fr. C Eli Kern chipped in with 4 points and 4 blocks, including a mammoth rejection off the backboard on a fast break. The JV squad extended their perfect record to 4-0, and travels to Livingston, NJ on December 16, 2013 to take on the Kushner Cobras.
The varsity nightcap saw the Cougars play tough man-to-man defense throughout. Frisch took a lead and held off a number of rallies from the Heat, who at one point in the fourth quarter sliced the lead to 4 points. When the final buzzer sounded, the home team had earned their fourth victory. Jr. F Benni Tuchman led Frisch with 13 points on 6-7 shooting. Sr. Justin Hod added 9, Sr. Abba Szydlo tallied 7, Seniors Evan Cohen and Eli Scharlat each scored 6 points, and Seniors Rami Laifer and Jacob Furer netted 5 each. Junior Michael Finkel hit two free throws and Sr. Andrew Lauer added one and a number of key rebounds to close out the scoring. The Varsity Cougars, now 4-3, next travel to Brooklyn to take on the Magen David Warriors.
