Frisch Faculty Travel to Learn With Alumni in College

Over the past couple of months, members of the Judaic Studies faculty at Yeshivat Frisch have been visiting alumni at various colleges in the tri-state and surrounding areas. Their mission: to bring some of the Frisch magic and high-level and engaging Torah learning to their former students now in college.

Coordinated by Rabbi Joshua Wald, associate principal, and Cheryl Leiser, alumni coordinator, the program was launched this year as a way to continue the Frisch connection that was ignited and ingrained so deeply while the young men and women were in high school.

Faculty have, so far, logged worthwhile miles visiting students at Stern College for Women and FIT (Mrs. Teichman and Mrs. Goldfischer), the University of Pennsylvania (Rabbi Morris), the University of Maryland (Rabbi Sher), Barnard/Columbia (Morah Racheli) and Rutgers (Rabbi Jaffe), and students from NYU, Baruch College and the Fashion Institute of Technology at a shiur held at the Chabad House Bowery (Rabbi Schulman ’03).

Michael Reinhart ’15 recently returned from his year studying Torah in Israel at Torat Shraga. Now a student at Baruch, he genuinely appreciated the shiur from Rabbi Schulman that focused on living a broad life that synthesizes both the holy and the mundane. “Listening to Rabbi Schulman speak about Rav Hutner’s thoughts on living a life that allows you to embrace your Jewish identity in a secular world was personal chizuk for me, since I’m in college now after a year spent in Israel,” explained Reinhart. “The shiur was really applicable to my life as it is now.”

“Sharing our faculty’s knowledge with our alumni is one of the best ways for us to remind our alumni on various college campuses that the Frisch connection they know from their high school days does not end with their graduation,” said Leiser. “Frisch remains a strong presence as our alumni go through life and enjoy various milestones, always with the knowledge that Frisch takes pride and joy in their accomplishments.”

Frisch faculty members are planning visits to Yeshiva University and Binghamton University in the coming months. To learn more about alumni events and programming throughout the year, please follow the Frisch Alumni Association Facebook fan page.
