Isaac Laifer ‘17 of Frisch was part of Team USA at the 13th Pan American Maccabi Games in Santiago, Chile, which took place from December 26 through January 5. Isaac played basketball for the 16 and under (16U) USA team, which brought home the gold.
Maccabi USA is a non-profit organization that helps to perpetuate and preserve the American Jewish community through sports, and by encouraging Jewish pride, strengthening Jewish bonds and creating a heightened awareness of Israel and Jewish identity.
Laifer’s athletic prowess helped give Frisch the one point victory of 64-63 in last year’s junior varsity basketball championship against SAR.
“Basketball has always been a passion of mine, and I was honored to be appointed as a member of the USA Maccabi Team,” said Isaac. “I was afforded the great opportunity to partake in the celebration of Jewish unity, culture and heritage through athletic competition.”
Just as impressive as his athleticism is the fact that Isaac proudly wore his kippah throughout the games, both on and off the court.
