Frisch JV Looking to Repeat Success

This year’s Frisch JV Cougar basketball team is once again a talented and deep squad and hungry to 3-peat as Champions of the MYHSAL. Coaches Dovey Forman and Gabe Davidoff are excited about the prospects of the season while at the same time reminding the team that championships are won through hard work, dedication and great leadership.

Returning from their undefeated (16-0) Championship team from last year are talented sophomores Max Mayerhoff, Jake Fromen, Jack Reinhart, Jay Jay Blinken, Joey Strobel and Benny Mathson. After losing some very talented players to the varsity team, the Cougars added talented sophomores Ariel Solomon, Yair Siegl and free agent signing Seth Silverman and acquired great incoming Freshmen Dan Weinberger, Billy Krause, Max Zakheim, Josh Dukas, Akiva Feit and Rafi Lewis.

The quest for an unprecedented 3-peat will not be an easy task. The team’s schedule over the course of the year will include a grueling 10 game schedule versus talented schools across the region and will also include the prestigious Emunah Rubenstein Tournament which Frisch is once again looking to repeat as Champions. To round out the schedule, the team will be going out of state to either Toronto or Florida for what promises to be a fun and exciting trip for the team.

With many hours of practice already under their belt, the Cougars are once again looking to showcase their formidable pressure style defense and complementing it with their run and gun style offense. The team had a chance to showcase themselves last weekend in an AAU tournament in Hillburn, NY and came away with an impressive victory and an equally impressive game against 11th and 12th graders which they ultimately fell just short of a victory. All in all the tournament was great team bonding and allowed the coaches to see the talent they have for the upcoming season. Just the other day, during a typical hard and grueling practice, sophomore Jake Fromen addressed the team and expressed his excitement for the start of the season while also pointing out how ‘in midseason form’ the team looks. Adding to this, Max Mayerhoff cautioned and reminded the team that “nothing is given; everything is earned.” With hard work and dedication from both the players and coaches this season awaits.

Come out to cheer on the team as they open their season vs JEC Thunder on Saturday Night November 5th with a banner raising ceremony at The Frisch School. Ceremony and Tip are scheduled for 8pm.
