The Frisch JV girls volleyball team started the season with just three returning players from last year, which in yeshiva league volleyball means that the remaining seven players were new to the sport. It was also the first season coaching for their new coach—a proud Frisch alumna who played four seasons of Frisch volleyball, making it to the championships all four times. The team worked hard from day one and had a strong start to the season with a 5-0 record. “It was incredibly important to me that the girls developed their skills on the court and took the values they learned from the team off the court as well,” said Coach Danielle Orenshein. Right before the game Orenshein shared a quote with them from “Rocky,” “Every champion was once a contender that refused to give up.”
Frisch came out strong on Sunday and were serving up to their level, with each of their players sending hard serves over the net. Ma’ayanot put up a good fight and was able to return some of the Frisch serves and sent over some hard spikes. Frisch was able to hold on to their lead in the first game. Then in the second game, Frisch took an early lead again. Late in the game, Ma’ayanot tied the score at 18. Frisch then pulled ahead to win 21-19, and take the match 2 games to 0.
The girls excelled both in their individual skills and as a team by supporting each other with positivity throughout the match and the whole season, leading them to win the championship
