Frisch Senior Spearheads Kosher Food Drive

(Jewish Link Staff) Shira Sedek is a graduating Frisch senior with a huge heart and acts on her beliefs. A few weeks ago she was learning about the problem’s families are facing during the pandemic. She realized that while she was being affected, there are others who were being affected worse. “A lot of people are losing their jobs or aren’t being paid and can’t afford food for their families, so I thought this was a nice way to help.” She reached out to the camp director at Anshei Lubavitch, Mrs. Yael Elias, and together they organized five drop-off points in Englewood, Fair Lawn, Teaneck, Bergenfield and Paramus for The Kosher Food Drive. At the end of the week, Shira, with her cheerful attitude, drives around and picks up whatever was donated. To date Shira has donated 10 boxes of food all through contributions from the Bergen Community. Besides cans and shelf-stable items, the Kosher Food Drive has also collected much-needed fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen meat and toiletries. “The food will be going b’ezras Hashem to two food gemachs. One in Bergenfield and the other in Fair Lawn, and if anyone has any specific people that they know need food they can contact me and I will drop food off for them as well. We have already delivered a few times to the gemachs but we still need more. Tizku L’mitzvot!”

Shira Sedek can be reached at (615) 609-6769. Places to drop off are 559 Edmund Terrace, Paramus NJ, 07652; 206 Copley Avenue, Teaneck NJ, 07666; 163 Dwight Place, Englewood NJ; 10-11 Plymouth, Fair Lawn NJ; and 426 New Bridge Rd., Bergenfield.
