Inspired by their trip to Save a Child’s Heart (SACH) last summer, Frisch juniors Iliana Mann, Renee Gershuni, Isabel Linsky and Hayden Linsky started a Save a Child’s Heart club at Frisch.
Save a Child’s Heart is an organization, based in Israel, that helps children all over the world, for free, no matter a child’s gender, race or nationality. SACH, located in Holon, Israel, has treated over 6,600 children from over 68 countries. The club leaders had the opportunity to learn about the organization and play with the children, seeing what an impact SACH has made on their lives. Renee explained that “This was the moment we knew we had to do something to bring smiles to these children’s faces every day like we did today.”
After some groundwork, the Save a Child’s Heart club was introduced to Frisch. The club is open to every Frisch student, and is perfect for those who are interested in Israel and learning about volunteer organizations.
The club leaders started off with educating members about the background of the organization, along with specific stories about childrens’ journeys. These included the first patient as well as the 6000th patient, who was from Gaza. Before Pesach, club members wrote cards to the children of SACH. During Pesach vacation, club leader Iliana Mann visited the children’s home in Holon and distributed the cards to the children. “Delivering the cards to the kids at the children’s home was such a rewarding experience. Despite some language barriers, the kids understood the message that our club wanted to give to them through our cards. The smiles on their faces confirmed that our SACH club at Frisch really made an impact, even from six thousand miles away,” she recounted.
This upcoming year, the club leaders hope to continue their work, do video calls with the children and learn more about them. Whether in Holon or Frisch, the Frisch SACH club wants to continue to make a difference in these children’s lives.
