(Courtesy of CMD) This past Monday, two students from Yeshivat Frish spent time at Bergenfield Surgery Center, as part of their medical elective. Arranged by Dr. Joey Shatzkes, 10th graders Hannah Vogel and Ayelet Freedman arrived at Bergenfield Surgery Center excited and eager to learn. They were first given a tour of the surgery center by Dr. Daniel Popowitz, chief of student activities at the Center for Musculoskeletal Disorders. The Doctors from CMD perform many of their surgeries and procedures at Bergenfield Surgery Center, which is located in the heart of the Teaneck / Bergenfield community. The students spent their time observing several surgeries, such as a hindfoot fusion as well as an arthroscopic shoulder repair.
Dr. Gupta, orthopedic shoulder surgeon, said, “It was a pleasure having them in my operating room. What a great opportunity for them to see how a surgery center takes care of patients.”
Podiatric surgeon Dr Yasmin Sarraf spent time with the students as well. She said, “It was really nice to meet them.
I remember when I was in their shoes.
I think I saw some future foot and ankle surgeons!”
The CMD continues to work closely with local yeshiva high schools to give their students an insightful experience into the world of orthopedic and podiatric medical specialties.
