Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

Dear Shayna,

I need your help! My best friend just told me she’s moving to Israel this summer. Although I should be happy for her, which I am, I’m really going to miss her. We grew up together. We’ve known each other since I was born. I just don’t know what to do. How do I make the most of the next 14 weeks I have with her?

Thanks so much as always,

Missing My Buddy Brenda

Dear Missing My Buddy Brenda,

I recently responded to a similar question. Someone wrote to me about how to keep in touch with a friend even though she lives far away. I told her she can still Zoom or FaceTime with her. So that’s what you can do when she goes away. But you asked me how to make the best of the 14 weeks you have with her, so I’ll tell you. First of all, 14 weeks are a lot of weeks, so I wouldn’t worry too much. Here is a list of things you can do with her:

1. Make hamentashen.

2. Buy costumes that go together.

3. Have a sleepover.

4. Build a snowman and have hot cocoa.

5. Make each other cards.

6. Buy her a going-away present.

7. Paint each other pictures.

8. Do each other’s nails.

9. Make friendship bracelets.

10. Tell each other jokes.

11. Bake each other cookies.

12. Read books and then tell each other about the books you read.

13. Do what your friend likes best.

14. Go sledding with your friend.

15. After doing so many things together, you may need a break from each other anyway.

Best of luck,

Shayna B.
