Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

Galene Water Treatment Now Serving Homes in NY and NJ

Many people assume tap water in the U.S. is perfectly safe—but the reality can be quite different. In New Jersey and parts of New York, water often contains high levels of chlorine, hard minerals, organic contaminants, and a growing concern: PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), often called “forever chemicals.”

Chlorine is commonly used in public water systems to disinfect drinking water, including in New York City, where it plays a key role in water treatment [KeepFoodSafe.org]. Water hardness, caused by calcium and magnesium minerals, varies across the region—parts of New York fall into the “moderately hard” category [OlympianWaterTesting.com]. And PFAS contamination has become a serious concern, with dozens of water systems in New Jersey exceeding the state’s limits and nearly half a million people affected [NorthJersey.com]. New York has also implemented strict PFAS limits in public water systems [NY Department of Health].

Recognizing these common issues, Galene Water Treatment was founded to provide real solutions. Originally launched in Florida by an Israeli entrepreneur, the company offers state-of-the-art home water treatment systems to address everything from unpleasant taste and smell to harmful chemicals and hard water buildup.

Now, thanks to Asi Grinberg and Ran Goldman, both Israeli natives who relocated to Bergen County, Galene has expanded to serve the New Jersey and New York regions.

“One of the biggest water concerns in this area is PFAS contamination,” said the team at Galene. “New Jersey ranks second in the nation for PFAS levels in drinking water.”

PFAS are man-made chemicals found in everyday items like plastics, nonstick pans and firefighting foam. They don’t break down naturally and have been detected in drinking water across the country. Studies have linked PFAS exposure to cancer, liver damage, immune system issues, and developmental problems in children. Most conventional water filters don’t effectively remove them—but Galene’s systems do.

Another rising concern is microplastics—tiny plastic particles that result from plastic waste and industrial activity. These have been found in both drinking water and human organs, with early research suggesting potential hormonal disruption and long-term health risks. And then there’s the issue of hard water, which contains high levels of calcium and magnesium. It’s not just a nuisance; hard water can cause dry skin, scalp irritation, and build-up in pipes and appliances—leading to reduced water pressure and costly repairs.

Even chlorine, which is widely used to disinfect water, has its downsides. “Chlorine can dry out your skin and hair, irritate your eyes, and even affect your breathing when inhaled as steam during a shower,” Galene explained. “At high enough levels, it may even be carcinogenic.”

To combat these issues, Galene installs custom home water treatment systems including:

  • Carbon filtration;
  • Water softeners;
  • Reverse osmosis systems; and
  • PFAS-targeted resins specially designed to remove even the most stubborn contaminants.

“Cleaner, safer water isn’t just about taste—it’s about protecting your health, your family, and your home,” said Galene. “Clean water shouldn’t be a luxury. It’s a necessity.”

Galene offers both under-sink and whole-home systems. Every client begins with a free consultation and water assessment to identify specific concerns, followed by a customized treatment plan to match their needs.
