In Gan Aliya’s robust, integrated Montessori Kodesh and general curriculum, students have the opportunity to use manipulatives to deepen their learning and develop key skills. Pictured here are students engaging with Montessori materials on a regular basis, performing independent works that they are encouraged to complete on their own after receiving a lesson from a teacher or peer.
One student is proudly displaying his work on teen numbers. In this exercise, students write all the numbers to practice penmanship and numeral recognition, reinforcing their understanding of sequencing, counting in tens and fine motor skills.
Another student is using the movable Hebrew alphabet to sequence the Aleph Beis letters. This hands-on activity supports recognition and recall, laying the foundation for future reading and writing skills in Hebrew.
Additionally, a student is learning about state flowers using the three-part nomenclature cards. This Montessori tool includes a picture, a label and a control/self-correction card, allowing students to independently perform the task and self-correct as they work. These materials encourage self-reliance, critical thinking and hands-on learning.
Through these activities, the students not only gain academic knowledge but also develop a sense of pride in their work, independence and the ability to learn and self-correct.
