Giant LED Robot Helps Menorah Lighting In Hackensack

(Courtesy of Chabad of Hackensack) It was freezing outside, but our hearts were not!

Chabad of Hackensack celebrated the first night of Chanukah and what a wonderful Chanukah celebration it was.

It began by driving from Chabad in the annual car menorah parade. As usual, the Hackensack Police Department did a superb job by escorting the parade as it brought the lights of Chanukah to the streets of Hackensack. And this year, the parade had the extra light of the Hatzalah ambulance that joined. Thank you, Hatzalah of Bergen County.

The parade ended at the Bergen County courthouse, where everyone was greeted by live Chanukah music by musician Zvi Davidson. Mayor John Labrosse addressed the crowd (“I love Chabad of Hackensack for what they do in the community”). Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton brought Chanukah wishes on behalf of the county government.

After a brief talk by Rabbi Mendy about the power of each individual to be a light and the uniqueness of this year (“year of Hakhel”), it was time for the menorah lighting. With, of course, much singing and dancing.

Then to the children’s delight (and perhaps adults, too?), a giant LED robot appeared, dancing, throwing chocolate gelt and taking selfies with the excited children. Delicious Chanukah treats and menorah kits to each attendee (“give it to someone who doesn’t have one”) were a perfect ending to a memorable event.
