On December 20, Yeshivat He’Atid participated in the Jewish Education Project’s Millions for Education Event. Three matching donors, the Distenfeld family, the Flamholz family, and the BF Fund, challenged the school to raise $25,000 in 24 hours, which would total $100,000 for the school when matched. The catch was that if the school couldn’t raise $25,000 in time, all donations would be returned.
The Giving Day campaign launched on Charidy.com at 2PM on Tuesday, and in a truly wonderful surprise, the donations poured in and Yeshivat He’Atid hit their goal in under three hours. The generosity of all the donors was once again matched by Gershon and Aviva Distenfeld, who continued matching the next $25,000 of donations dollar for dollar. At the close of the 24 hour campaign, the school had raised over $150,000.
To turn Giving Day into a meaningful experience, Yeshivat He’Atid students participated by giving and learning about tzedakah. Each class was given a short lesson about the power of communal mitzvot. Using the popular song “Schar Mitzvah Mitzvah,” Rav Daar spoke about the infectious nature of mitzvot and how He’Atid students were participating in a long line of charity that has roots in the Torah. The classes then lined up to put their donations into a large decorated tzedakah box. In alignment with the school’s mission, Yeshivat He’Atid ensured a partnership between home and school with this special event.
