(Courtesy of Schechter Bergen) Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County (Schechter Bergen) marked its golden anniversary on June 2. Nearly 500 parents, grandparents, alumni parents, alumni and friends gathered at the Hilton Pearl River for the school’s annual community celebration, a heartfelt tribute to its rich history and promising future. As the only halachic and egalitarian Jewish day school in Bergen County for 50 years, Schechter Bergen stands as a beacon of inclusivity and tradition.

The event showcased captivating performances by eighth grade students and the middle school chorus, a meaningful student-led tribute to our brave alumni serving in the Israel Defense Forces, a silent auction, a comprehensive historical timeline of the school’s history, and the recognition of key figures who have shaped the school’s legacy. Among this year’s honorees were Schechter Bergen board presidents, <CT:OBLIQUE>AHAVA <CT:>Parent Association presidents, heads of the school, administration, teachers and staff, and the inaugural Schechter Bergen Distinguished Alumni Award recipient.

Reflecting on Schechter Bergen’s journey, Head of School Steve Freedman expressed gratitude for the visionary founders, dedicated educators, passionate parents and countless supporters who have propelled the school forward over the past five decades. Freedman shared, “Today, as we look back on half a century of growth and achievement, we honor those who came before us. Because of their hard work, sacrifice and unwavering dedication, our school has flourished.

Attendees left the celebration inspired and invigorated, united in their commitment to Schechter Bergen’s mission to “inspire our students to be engaged, independent learners who embrace Jewish values and practices and strive with confidence and compassion to better the world.” With gratitude for the past and optimism for the future, the school eagerly anticipates the next 50 years of making a meaningful impact on the world.
