The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Gotham Burger would like to recognize eleven year old Aliza Poloner as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The Rosenbaum Yeshiva of North Jersey sixth grader is the granddaughter of Yeshiva University basketball legend Stu Poloner. She is a star in her own right, in the Yavneh Youth League and the Mitch Gross Basketball League. Earlier this summer Aliza received further accolades as MVP of Cmek and was one of the five campers chosen to participate in the camper vs staff game at Camp Kaylie.
Aliza, congratulations on a great summer and we look forward to much continued nachas from you on and off the court. Who would you say are your role models?
My parents of course, because they always make me laugh, encourage me to never give up, and are the kindest people I’ve ever met. Happy Birthday Mom!!
Who is your favorite professional athlete?
Most definitely Stephen Curry, because he makes the craziest shots and is an amazing dribbler.
What is your pregame routine?
Snacking, shooting layups, and laughing with my teammates.
What is your earliest sports memory?
Going to a Miami Heat game and seeing Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh play against Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.
What is the funniest thing that ever happened to you, while playing sports?
One time someone fouled me and I did a backwards summersault on the court.
What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?
Hanging out with my friends and watching basketball.
What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?
It pushes me to get even better…and getting to tell my friends I was in the newspaper!
