The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Gotham Burger would like to recognize Golan Meir as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The fifteen year old soccer phenome lead the Yeshiva League in goals this season and is a large part of the Storms’ run for the championship. Coach Bruce Minsky told the JLNJ “Golan is a complete player, a team leader and great motivator. More than his play, his terrific attitude and middot make him a pleasure on and off the field. He is probably one of the top players I have had the privilege of coaching at TABC.”

Golan who is your role Model?

My role model is my grandmother because she taught me how to look at things in a positive way. I learned from her that even if I lose a game I should move past and only learn from my mistakes.

Who is your favorite athlete?

My favorite athlete is Lionel Messi because he works hard every day, and shows respect on and off the soccer field.

What is your pregame routine?

My pregame routine is to usually come a little early. In that time I stretch and warm up for the game.

What is your earliest sports memory?

When I lived in Israel I remember my dad’s friend from the army came home and taught me how to kick a soccer ball for the first time.

What is your favorite sports memory?

My favorite sports memory was when I joined the TABC Storm soccer team and we won our first game.

What do you like to do when not playing soccer?

When I am not playing soccer I enjoy hanging out with friends.

What is the best part about being a sports star?

The best part of being a sports star is knowing people are counting on me to lead the team.
