Gotham Burger Sportstar of the Week: Ian Broomberg

The Jewish Link of Bergen County and Gotham Burger would like to recognize 11-year-old Ian Broomberg as this week’s Gotham Burger Sportstar of the Week. Ian is a Bo Jackson of Bergen County youth athletics. He plays for the Yavneh hockey team, Aiflag flag football, Bergenfield PAL, Mitch Gross Basketball and TABC Jr Hockey.

Ian who is your favorite professional athlete?

My favorite athlete is Mats Zuccarello of the New York Rangers because of his speed and his awesome wrist shot. I admire him because even though he is small, he is very tough.

Who is your sports role model?

My role model is Derek Jeter, former shortstop of the New York Yankees. Even though he was one of the best baseball players of all time, he didn’t let the fame get to his head.

Do you have a pregame meal?

Before a game, I like to eat light, nothing heavy that would prevent me from running.

What is your favorite sports memory?

My favorite sports memory is when I scored the winning goal in the TABC junior hockey championship game. I had just come home from 10 days in Israel that morning, and I’m not sure how I was still awake for the game that night. Shout out to one of my best friends and teammate, Zach Levy, for the assist!

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?

My favorite thing to do when I’m not playing sports is watching sports!

What’s the best thing about being a Sportstar?

I’m not sure yet. I’ll tell you next week!

The Gotham Burger Sportstar of the Week will receive a $10 gift certificate to Gotham Burger. Please send nominees for next week’s Gotham Burger Sportstar of the Week to [email protected]
