Gotham Burger Sportstar of the Week Liam Levy

The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Gotham Burger would like to recognize Liam Levy as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The twelve-year-old Yeshivat Ben Porat Yosef point guard holds the school record for points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks. Levy lead BPY to its first ever school victory two years ago, and led the team to the playoffs last year. He received a letter from the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) for being amongst the top players his age in the country.

An opposing coach told the JLNJ, “Liam is a pleasure to watch, and a challenge to coach against. His fundamentals are flawless and [he] has the uncanny ability to make his teammates better.”

JLNJ caught up with Liam:

Liam who is your role model and why?

My favorite role model is Nate Robinson, because he is one of the shortest players to play professional basketball. That really motivates me because I am pretty much always the shortest on the basketball court. If he could make professional basketball, I will always set high goals for myself.

Who is your favorite athlete and why?

My favorite athlete is Lebron James, he is my favorite athlete because he never complains he just keeps pushing himself and leads his team all the time, even in tough moments.

What is your pregame routine?

My pregame routine is to never eat one hour or two before a game, and to always eat very light before your game. Don’t eat food that is too heavy because you will get cramps and throw up.

What is your earliest sports memory?

My earliest sports memory is when I was about four years old. I was playing on a five foot hoop in my backyard, and I never wanted to leave the basketball court.

What is your favorite sports memory?

My favorite sports memory, when I was in second grade playing for MGBL in the championship game. Our team was down with 10 second left in the game, I hit a very lucky shot. This game went to triple over time, we went on to win the title.

What is your favorite thing to do when not playing sports?

My favorite thing to do when not playing sports is to watch sports. The reason for this, is because when I watch I learn new things and learn from mistakes.

What is the best thing about being a Sports Star?

Best thing about being a sport star, is to help others to get better and better to reach their goals. I wouldn’t be writing this without all the help I get from my coaches.

The Gotham Burger Sportstar of the Week will receive a $10 gift certificate to Gotham Burger. Please send nominees for next week’s Gotham Burger Sportstar of the Week to [email protected].
