The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Gotham Burger would like to recognize 17-year-old Menashe Shershow as sportstar of the week. Last week, the RKYHS senior finished 1st in the Brick Memorial Wrestling Tournament. Shershow has been on the wrestling team for all four years of high school and according to Kushner AD Richard Kirsch, “He is one of the most dedicated and hardworking student athletes I’ve seen in a long time. He is an inspiration and role model to the younger members of the team.”
Menashe who would you say is your role mode?
My role model is my coach. Coach Dave Cilio never stops pushing me to my limits. Over the four years that he has coached the wrestling team, he has constantly and consistently helped me reach goals I never thought I was capable of.
What is your pregame meal?
The morning of a wrestling match I eat a small amount of protein and carbohydrates. This meal usually consists of 2-3 eggs and 2 slices of bread.
What is your earliest sports related memory?
My earliest sports memory is my first wrestling practice in the 9th grade. Learning how to do a proper push-up was a life changing experience. I eventually learned to love and look forward to the pain and feeling of accomplishment.
What is your favorite sports memory?
As of now, my favorite sports memory took place when I was awarded 2nd place at the Henry Wittenberg Wrestling Tournament in February 2014.
What is your favorite thing to do when not playing sports?
When I am not attending wrestling practice I enjoy lifting weights. Wrestling requires a commitment that extends throughout the year. If I want to be able to compete at the level of excellence that I expect from myself, I need to use my time to stay in wrestling shape the whole year.
What is the best thing about being a sportstar?
The best thing about participating in a competitive sport is the disciplined lifestyle which it builds. This extends to all aspects of my life; from earning good grades to managing a healthy sleep schedule.
The Gotham Burger Sportstar of the Week will receive a $10 gift certificate to Gotham Burger. Please send nominees for next week’s Gotham Burger Sportstar of the Week to [email protected]
