In your October 7 article entitled “Garrett and Gottheimer: Pro-Israel Candidates at Odds With One Another” (October 7, 2016), Gottheimer shared that the reason he is running for Congress is because he is “frustrated with the government of today and how people treat each other.” In actuality, Josh Gottheimer should be frustrated mostly with himself. On October 11, the Observer.com published an article entitled “Weinberg Calls on AG to Investigate Garrett’s Ties to Domestic Terror Organization.” Gottheimer used this article in his political ads. To insinuate that Scott Garrett has ties to a domestic terrorist organization is outrageous and false on its face on many levels. “Oath Keepers,” the organization in question, is not a domestic terrorist organization. The event was not an Oath Keepers event. Oath Keepers do not advocate violence—check out their website. Scott Garrett does not advocate violence and does not support any organization that promotes violence.
Josh Gottheimer could alleviate his own frustration with himself by disassociating himself from Senator Loretta Weinberg, apologizing to Congressman Scott Garrett and condemning the defamatory article in the Observer.com. While we wait for Mr. Gottheimer to make amends, we are compelled to ask whether we want to elect Mr. Gottheimer, who is running such a smear campaign while saying that he is concerned about how people treat each other.
Sincerely,
