Great Ideas Are Happening at the Idea School

What an inspirational few weeks at the Idea School! Celebrating their first Chanukah together, students designed a representation of what the holiday means to them by designing and coding menorahs, using skills they learned in programming, and writing accompanying artist statements. Students also participated in community activities, including packing meals for Tomchei Shabbos and joining a Shabbat party at the Leonard & Syril Rubin Nursery School at the JCC. Idea School students began a fascinating unit surrounding ethics and justice, studying and debating humanitarian and Talmudic perspectives on topics such as driverless cars and “whose blood is redder.” Enriching this unit of study was Dr. Moshe Wertenteil who spoke to the students about halachic organ donation and a number of topics surrounding medical ethics. Rabbi Tavi Koslowe guided the Idea School students on the articulating and listening roles of the chavruta protocol as students explore sources related to end of life ethics.
