Great Neck’s Talia Reese is performing as the opening act for the final week of Ashley Blaker’s Off Broadway run of “Strictly Unorthodox,” the first-ever stand up show about life as a Charedi Jew. The show will play until June 28 in the Jerry Orbach Theater at the Theater Center, 1627 Broadway.
Reese is an accomplished comedian who has been featured as a “Hot Ticket” in the New York Post. In addition to opening for Caroline Rhea and Nick DiPaolo, Reese is a regular “comedic” legal contributor to the Anthony Cumia Network. She has also appeared on The Wendy Williams Show, Spike TV and Lifetime Network, and she recently completed a six day residency at The Borgata in Atlantic City. A Modern Orthodox Jew herself, she is a sought-after performer for Jewish and corporate events.
Blaker’s “Strictly Unorthodox” has already been a smash hit in New York, with the New York Times calling it “a slicky funny stand-up show.” The New York Post recently described Blaker by saying, “Imagine John Oliver in a yarmulke.” He has previously performed two sell-out tours in the UK, and took his comedy across Israel and South Africa. He started performing in the US with a sold-out show at New York’s Gramercy Theatre.
Blaker said, “I am such a big fan of Talia Reese, so I was delighted when she agreed to open for me in New York. I have worked with a ‘who’s who’ of comedy, from John Oliver to James Corden and Russell Brand to Graham Norton, and I know Talia can be up there with all of them. She has a huge future ahead of her.”
The final performances of “Strictly Unorthodox” will be Sunday through Thursday, with matinees on Sunday and Wednesday at 2 p.m… The final show is set for Thursday, June 28.
