On love of the Torah:
When my kids were younger, I used to make parsha cakes for them weekly decorated with sweets to depict important themes and concepts from that week’s parsha.
On Israel:
I love Israel! My grandmother, aunts, uncles and all first cousins live in Israel.
On the vaccine:
As a physician taking care of very sick COVID patients, I was fortunate to receive my COVID vaccination as soon as it became available, Baruch Hashem!
On travel:
Our family mantra is “Ma rabu maasecha Hashem!” – “What a beautiful world Hashem has created for us!”
On being a neurologist:
I am fascinated by the intricate workings of the human brain and would urge everyone to please wear their helmets while biking.
Fun facts:
I love aqua zumba and singing off key.
I was the neurologist for 15,000 inmates at Rikers Island.
I am petrified of sharks.
Words to live by:
Life is short, time flies in a blink of an eye, we need to appreciate every moment.
Growing up:
I grew up in Vorkuta, a city above the Arctic Circle. This city was too cold for rein deer and Eskimos to survive in. As kids, we were happy playing outside in temperatures of about -25’C (-13’F). We did not get a “snow day.”
On Parshat Shemini:
The first time korbanos are brought in the Mishkan and the Shechina descends. Demonstrating the importance of “taking action”, of “doing”, rather than solely “thinking” or “feeling” spirituality.
Olga Segal, M.D., is a neurologist specializing in Stroke and Sleep Disorders. She, her husband and kids love their Teaneck community and also enjoy exploring all that NYC has to offer, whether it’s ballet, opera, theater, museums, and sightseeing.
