Having your say in the Link With Mayer Fertig

Photographed by: David Beyda

On Parshat Behar:

We learn about shmita. If you have a bottle of wine from shmita grapes you cannot allow a drop to go to waste. There are worse things than having to finish every drop of wine in the bottle!

On Israel and Aliyah plans:

Ideally, we’ll get there before Moshiach – beat the rush!

On broadcasting:

I started doing radio at 19, filling in for Nachum Segal. Now I play news and opinion editor on Facebook and Twitter @mayerfertig

On hotdogs:

The most important thing I’ve learned from barbecuing hotdogs in front of my house on Purim is: it makes people really, really happy.

On appreciation:

Billboard message on Route 4: “Something you take for granted, someone else prays for.” Gratitude is everything.

On air conditioning and refrigeration:

After working behind a desk, working with my hands is exhilarating!

On chesed:

15 years ago I co-founded Hatzalah in Elizabeth. I’m glad it’s finally about to happen in Bergen County.

On ice cream:

We stopped buying Ben & Jerry’s when their super woke marketing department thought it would be cool to honor antisemites.

On hot rods:

In 2002 Ford re-released the Thunderbird and brought a pair in different colors for me and a WCBS News Radio anchor to test drive. You should have seen the looks those cars got as we drove through Times Square.

On fame:

Nobody is as famous or even as well-known as they may think they are. It’s a good lesson for some of the worlds’ egomaniacs.

Mayer Fertig is a recovering radio guy whose midlife crisis is going into the air conditioning and heating business. He and Chani (who makes the most incredible chocolate rum cheesecake) are blessed to parent Leora, Dovid, and Naftali, and a very chill border collie named Butler.
