He’Atid Hurricanes Boys And Girls Basketball Win Double Header

(He’Atid) The He’Atid Hurricanes girls basketball team defeated Westchester Day School on Sunday morning, November 13, with a score of 32-16. The Hurricanes look to keep their winning streak up. The girls started the season strong four days earlier with an overtime win against Manhattan Day School in their opening game.

“It truly was a total team effort today,” said Hurricanes Coach Aaron Neufeld. In fact, Leah Barzideh, Ally Pruzansky and Ilana Cooper had eight rebounds each, and Alyssa Billauer and Nili Klapper each had four steals.

“Winning games in this league is not easy,” Neufeld said, “but every time the girls come to practice they put in the work and it’s showing up on the scoreboard.”

“I am so proud of how much our team has grown since our first practice,” said Billauer. “We work so well together and I can’t wait to see how far we will go as a team.” Cooper agreed. “I love watching our team play together and work as a team,” she said.

The Hurricanes boys basketball team also won their game against Westchester Day School on Sunday, with a score of 38-36. “The Hurricanes started off slow and were down 10 points to start the game,” explained Coach Aaron Brotsky. “However, the boys fought back and took the lead at the end of the third quarter, added to it in the fourth, and held on for the win.”

Brotsky explained that the Hurricanes won through strong defense, rebounding, and 3-point shooting. Seventh grader Nate Brotsky led all scoring with 24 points (including seven 3-pointers). Seventh grader Gideon Haberman and eighth grader Joey Ginzburg were strong on the glass and had several blocks. Eighth graders Matanel Berliner, Tani Fleischmann and Eli Lefkowitz played strong defense, including several steals and contributed on the offensive end as well. “We look forward to a successful rest of the season,” Brotsky said.

“Players stepped up when their numbers were called, and did enough for us to win,” Berliner said. “Hopefully we can continue to win and make improvements after each and every game.”
