Third grade students broke into groups to brainstorm about how to use a lever, an inclined plane and wheels to fill a cubby bin with school supplies, move it across the room and lift it into a cubby hole. The twist? They could not lift or slide anything without the assistance of a simple machine. The groups collaborated to creatively problem solve, using classroom objects to build simple machines. Pre-K students were challenged with a similar task, albeit on a much simpler level.
