Hebrew Free Loan of New Jersey to Host Myron Sugerman

(Courtesy of Hebrew Free Loan of NJ) Hebrew Free Loan of New Jersey will host Myron “The Last Jewish Gangster” Sugerman, to discuss his riveting life as part of the Jewish mob. The event will take place on June 13 from 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. at Oheb Shalom Congregation in South Orange.

Born in Newark, NJ, in 1938, Myron Sugerman began a career in his family’s coin-operated amusements business selling slot machines and jukeboxes to bars, nightclubs and other hangout spots. The vocation took him all over the world and into business with some of the most dangerous characters known to the public. His business affiliates included the infamous Cali Cartel, La Corporacion and the Genovese and Gambino crime families, to name a few. After nearly 60 years, Sugerman is now retired but continues to work as “chief rabbi,” serving as counsel for the up-and-coming generation in the gambling machine business. In 2018, Myron released his memoir “The Chronicles of the Last Jewish Gangster: From Meyer to Myron,” that offers a thrilling account of his career as an international outlaw. Filled with exciting, humorous and insightful encounters, Sugerman shares life lessons by recounting his adventures from 1959 to present day.

Of particular importance are his connections to the Jewish people, such as attempting to help famous Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal track down Josef Mengele in Paraguay, and how these remarkable stories helped form his Jewish identity.

After the discussion, attendees can meet Sugerman and receive a signed copy of his book.
