Heichal HaTorah Codes and Creates

Students at Heichal HaTorah are really developing their skills as computer programmers. In this interactive and highly popular course, students learn introductory coding concepts. Beginning with the new computer language known as SNAP, the class moves on to Python, one of the most popular computer languages used in the world today. The curriculum is based on math concepts in geometry and logic. The class instructor, Charles Galligan, is highly creative and encourages the students to work in teams with projects, prizes and goals to increase the excitement and challenge throughout the year. The students are presently coding the Monster game in Python. Players must navigate a three-story virtual space with multiple rooms while vanquishing obstacles along the way in this exciting dungeon-like setting. In order to implement the game, the students must be well versed in concepts such as lists, functions and conditional statements. It is amazing to see the enthusiasm and creativity among the students as they program and enjoy the process along the way.
