Heichal Hatorah Loses Two but Wins Big

Heichal Hatorah varsity softball team is new to the MYHSAL yeshiva league. Although they have put up a good fight, they have not yet won a game on the ball field. This past Sunday, they traveled to South Jersey to play two games back to back. First, they faced the hard hitting Hillel team and managed to keep it a two run game into the seventh inning. Next, they faced Maor and took a 9-7 lead into the seventh, though ultimately lost. The team left the Jersey Shore a bit disappointed but proud of how they played. On the way back to Teaneck, the players realized the zman for mincha was fast approaching. As important as softball may be, they realized that tefillah b’tzibur is what really matters. They frantically started calling around to shuls along the way, but it seemed unlikely that they would find a minyan. Then they realized that both softball and minyan need 10 players/prayers. But the team was in separate cars. No problem! Meet at a rest stop! And they did. The team met at a Garden State Parkway rest area to daven. As they stood in the parking lot surrounded by players in uniform davening with amazing kavana, they realized that they had just scored their first WIN and what a win it was! The season is half over and, with just four games left to play,Surely the Heichal Hatorah Hornets are going to play their best and hopefully win a game or two. Their coach could not be prouder of this amazing group of young men. Let’s Go Hornets!!
