Heichal freshmen put their practical science knowledge to the test in the Biology lab this week. After studying molecular genetics in the classroom, students had the opportunity to observe firsthand the process of DNA extraction using plant cells. DNA extraction allows scientists to access DNA despite numerous molecular barriers and is, therefore, of significant importance in the process of genetic testing, developing diagnostics and drugs, forensics, sequencing and much more. Following the lab exercise, the students engaged in a discussion about the real-world applications of DNA extraction in medicine and research. The students learned a lot and enjoyed the experience in the process.
