This past week, students of Yeshivas Heichal HaTorah ran a 5k for Yad Leah. Yad Leah is a charity organization, which provides clothing to needy families in Israel of all different backgrounds and communities. In order to preserve the dignity of its beneficiaries, Yad Leah offers the opportunity to purchase high-quality clothing for discounted rates.
Yad Leah’s scheduled run conflicted with the learning sedarim Heichal students have each morning. However, determined to raise money for charity, Heichal students scheduled their own run and raised thousands of dollars through sponsorships. Academic Dean and Principal Rabbi Maccabee Avishur, an avid marathon runner himself, participated in the 5k as well. In addition to running for a noble cause, Heichal students enjoyed the opportunity to exercise outside—an important part of their coping with COVID.
