Heichal Sophomores Visit Philly

Last Thursday, Heichal’s sophomore class experienced an exciting, educational trip to Philadelphia, as part of the school’s mission to expand their learning beyond the walls of the classroom. The first stop was The Mesivta, where the boys enjoyed a special shmuz from the Rosh Mesivta Rabbi Steinberg, followed by a friendly (but intense) game of dodgeball and basketball. They then toured historic downtown Philadelphia, visiting the Liberty Bell and Constitution Hall. The boys toured Congregation Mikveh Israel, which is the second oldest operating shul in America, and the oldest running shul in Philadelphia. The boys were particularly excited about their tour of Eastern State Penitentiary, which is billed as the “world’s first true penitentiary, a prison designed to inspire penitence, or true regret, in the hearts of prisoners. The day ended with a delicious supper from Mama’s restaurant.
