Community members are invited to a special program about postpartum depression on Sunday, September 8, at 10:00 a.m. at Congregation Ahavas Achim in Highland Park.
The guest speaker, Marilyn Laves, LCSW-R, a psychotherapist specializing in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, will address the causes of the disorders, how postpartum depression differs from the Baby Blues, the various treatments available and what we can do as a community to ensure that women do not suffer in silence.
Laves is a licensed clinical social worker with a graduate degree from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College. She has worked in the mental health and substance abuse fields for over 20 years, providing psychotherapy, clinical supervision, program oversight and training. Ms. Laves is currently in private practice full time and treats a wide range of mental health issues, with expertise in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders and addiction.
Ms. Laves provides professional training for agencies including the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and the Homeless Services Training Resource System at the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College.
