(Courtesy of Holy Name Medical Center) Holy Name Medical Center was again awarded an “A” from The Leapfrog Group (Leapfrog) for its hospital safety score, which rates how well hospitals protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections. Holy Name was one of 750 hospitals in the U.S. to receive an “A” for patient safety. Of the 65 New Jersey acute-care hospitals graded, roughly 34 percent—22 hospitals—earned the top grade.

“This is the only national rating of how well hospitals protect patients from preventable harm and death, such as medical errors, infections and injuries,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Receiving an ‘A’ Safety Grade means a hospital is among the best in the country for preventing these terrible problems and putting their patients first, 24 hours a day.”

Developed under the guidance of an expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to approximately 2,500 US hospitals twice per year. It is peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.

Holy Name is also one of only five hospitals in New Jersey and New York and the only hospital in Bergen, Hudson, Passaic, Essex and Union counties to achieve a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for overall quality.
