Each year in the days leading up to Memorial Day and to Veterans Day local community members volunteer to place flags on the graves of our veterans. King Solomon Cemetery in Clifton, New Jersey has 55,000 graves, many of them graves of veterans dating back to World War I. Volunteers walked through the cemetery replacing flags and JWV (Jewish War Veterans) markers as needed.
On Sunday, Nov. 3, Passaic’s Val Rubin, whose husband, David, is a veteran, brought her four grandchildren, triplets Emma, Alanna and Molly and big brother Abie Creeger, to help replace flags. This past Sunday, Scout 226 Troop replaced over 100 flags and markers.
Post 226 is the only Jewish shomer Shabbat troop in Bergen County.
