A group of Idea School sophomores learned the art of writing Hebrew letters, safrut, under the guidance of Sofer Raphael Hirsch and faculty advisor Rabbi Zachary Rothblatt.

Students learned safrut as a part of a unit on the melachot of Shabbat. These students focused on the melachot that involve the preparation of parchment and skillful writing.
