Senior officers furious over major security leak. Highly classified video documenting intelligence debriefing ends up on internet.
The Information Security Department of the IDF is investigating a serious incident in which a secret presentation on terrorist infiltration research was leaked onto the internet and published on Arab sites. The army launched an extensive investigation into how the file got out from the ranks of the army and came to the internet.
This is an operational investigation of the incident in which a group of terrorists from Hamas entered Israel through the sea and came toward Zikkim in order to carry out an attack. An IDF lookout officer, a soldier in her compulsory army service, located the terrorists, and soldiers opened fire and killed the terrorists.
Despite the successful assassination, the IDF launched an investigation on how the terrorists managed to get into Israel, whose findings were presented in a presentation that is now permitted by the military for publication in Israeli media reports. The Information Security department is trying to figure out how it was leaked.
However, the IDF is looking into all the possibilities. It may be the negligence of a soldier who forgot that the media was classified and then came into the wrong hands. It may also be a cyber attack that was able to remove the media from the IDF system. Another possibility is that a soldier accidentally uploaded the content to a civilian network and from there it arrived at the Arab sites.
The IDF spokesman said: “This is an internal investigation of leaking serious information and will be investigated and treated accordingly.”
