Teaneck—How is this Pesach different from all others? Popular sports restaurant the Teaneck Doghouse (www.teaneckdoghouse.com), located at 1415 Palisade Avenue, will be open for business and dishing up the type of cuisine rarely associated with matzo and marror. Offering an exciting kosher le’pesach menu, the Doghouse will be serving hungry customers from Bergen County and way beyond during the entire week of chol hamoed.
“We knew people would love this, so we sat down with our rabbi and discussed how to make it happen,” said proprietor Jonathan Gellis. “We are offering basically the same great menu as our year-round bill of fare, but we make adaptations like a delicious potato-based soft bun.”
Opened last September on opening day of the NFL season, the Doghouse is the only sports spot in the area with 28 TVs and the ability to show all sporting games and events that also serves alcohol. The Teaneck Doghouse is the go-to destination for those looking to enjoy a kosher sports-viewing environment. “People are very happy to have a family-friendly place where their kids can watch a game and enjoy kosher food,” said Gellis. “We handle every kind of celebration, from kids’ birthday parties to sheva brachos, and our Super Bowl party was packed. We also catered to over 500 people on Super Bowl Sunday at house parties.”
The Pesach menu features matzo-meal-crusted chicken tenders and gator tenders in sweet chili and barbeque sauce, an assortment of French fries, fried pierogies, and other sides and salads along with their famous variety of dogs, including the Rutgers Dog (Italian beef sausage with a red apple Salsa Fresca on a brioche bun), the Wrigley Dog (knockwurst sausage with onion, relish, and peppers), PAC 10 Dog (garlic salami sausage with sautéed onion, chopped romaine, tomato, and avocado), Futbol Dog (chipotle hotdog topped with spicy chili, chopped onion, salsa, and avocado), and the SEC Dog (knockwurst sausage topped with pulled brisket, coleslaw, and barbecue sauce).
The Doghouse will also be offering their signature hamburgers, with the Preseason (spinach, avocado, tomato, and sauteed onion), Kentucky Derby (sauteed mushroom and onion, garlic aioli center), Ice Brawl (beef fry, sausage, pepper, and onion) and finally, The SEC (sweet barbeque sauce, slow-cooked pulled brisket, topped with a fried egg). All matzo products are “18 Minute Matzos” Buns, which are non-gebrochts.
They will be open Monday 4/6–Thursday 4/9 from11:30 am–midnight. “Our inaugural year of being open on Pesach will be attractive to those in town, as well as those who live well outside of Teaneck,” said Gellis. “They can stop by to visit friends and family, or local attractions like World of Wings, and not have to brown-bag matzo. They can go out to eat and make a day of it.”
