Regarding the article “Instability in Neighboring Jordan Is Bad News for Israel” (April 8, 2021), Jordan is an artificial country unilaterally created out of 75 percent of the Palestine mandate by the British. They did so as a consolation prize to the Hashemite ruling family, who lost out to the Saudis in the map redrawing game after World War I. The PLO tried to take over Jordan in 1970, but maintained their tradition of failure in this as well. Today, the majority of the population of Jordan is Palestinian Arab. The queen is a Palestinian Arab.
Recently, the cracks in the foundations of this dictatorship were exposed for the world to see. The collapse of Jordanian royal control would allow the aspirations of the Palestinian Arabs for their own country to come to fruition. The reality that there is already a Palestinian state would deflate the demands for a second one in the “West Bank” (Judea and Samaria) and a third one in Gaza.
A short period of instability would be well worth the eradication of this problematic entity and provide a solution that the world seems to demand.
