Curiosity and creativity have sparked the imagination of many inventors, fourth graders are certainly no exception. This week Moriah kicked off its annual Invention Convention, an extensive science unit that educates students about inventors and the invention process and helps them harness their creativity in solving real-world problems. Students will be brainstorming a list of problems or needs they face as students and will be coming up with possible solutions. They will then be developing, testing and refining their prototypes. This process gives the students a chance to use critical thinking skills and to learn how to follow a scientific process from beginning to end. This unit includes the reading of biographies, honing their note taking skills, and producing creative projects about famous inventors such as Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell and Albert Einstein.
Students will proudly showcase their inventions and projects at the culminating event of the Invention Convention in May where they have the chance to celebrate all of the fun learning and experimenting that they have been doing during their unit of study on inventions and inventors.
